The awesome Drakensberg Mountains, a breath-taking escarpment with
vertical drops of up to 800 meters, separate the interior of the
country from the coastal region. The region offers a wide array of
outdoor activities – hiking, mountain biking, climbing, horse
trails, whitewater rafting (in season), fly fishing, etc. The mountains
houses 35% of Southern Africa’s San rock-art dating back thousands
of years and unique flora all of which contributed to The Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg
Park, becoming a World Heritage Site (one of only 23 duel sites worldwide).
The majority of South Africa’s famous battles fought between the
British, the Zulu and Boers took part in this area, today these battlefield
are brought to life by renown historians such as David Rattray and Andrew
Ardington.
