Mahe Island

This picturesque island is the largest and main island of the Seychelles and is the home to most of the Seychelle’s population. Often just a midway point, travelers pass through on their way to the other various islands; however, if you have the time to explore it’s rainforest and beaches, it’s definitely worthwhile.

Mahe has a number of cities and locations within the island that are great places to see. Seychelles’ capital, Victoria, is located on the east coast of the island. It is filled with local culture that visitors can experience such as the smell of spices, sample fruits, handmade jewelry, various fish, and shopping for pareos. However, the main tourism center is Beau Vallon on the west coast of the island. Here, visitors can enjoy enjoy a relaxing day on the beach or a more adventurous day out sailing, parascending, windsurfing, and waterskiing. Other water sports such as swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving are also encouraged on the island. There is a highway going around the island and smaller roads connecting the shores fore easy travel. In addition, there are many accommodation options such as private guesthouses or hotel lodgings that visitors can choose from.
