GREATER CAPE TOWN
Cape Town is justifiably recognized as one of the most desirable city destinations in the world. With its natural beauty, diverse cultures, rich history, vast range of activities, excellent restaurants, relaxing lifestyle and the warmth of the Cape Town people it is truly a world-class destination. Few visitors leave Cape Town without plans to return.
EASTERN CAPE
This beautiful part of South Africa has widely been ignored by foreign tourists however it is quickly getting the recognition is deserves. The region offers a malaria-free, big five game viewing experience that are easily accessible by car from the Garden Route it works well on a self-drive holiday encompassing Cape Town, Garden Route and the Eastern Cape. The portion of undeveloped coastline above East London is aptly named the Wild Coast and provides coastal experiences for the more adventurous traveler.
DURBAN & SOUTH COAST
Durban is situated around Africa’s largest natural harbor. The city is a melting pot of cultural diversity, with its African, Asian and European influences creating a rich cosmopolitan society. Away from the city centre, beautiful mosques, richly decorated temples and vibrant street markets await the visitor.
KWAZULU-NATAL & NORTH COAST
Enjoy the unspoilt beauty of the rugged beaches, lush, undulating hills, forested dunes and attractive towns of the North coast. Adjacent to the coast is the St Lucia Estuary (a World Heritage Site) and vast tracks of conservation lands with excellent game viewing.
DRAKENSBERG
The magic of the Dragon Mountains (Drakensberg) or “ukhalamba” (The barrier of spears), provides a unique blend of spectacular scenery, rich history and heart warming hospitality. Being the highest mountain range in South Africa, the Drakensberg offers some of the most breath-taking scenery in the country, offering a blend of dramatic rock faces, massive spires, plunging waterfalls, endless grasslands, rivers and forests.
SUN CITY
Sun City is a world in itself. Nestling amount the rolling hills of the Pilanesberg range, it is in a very scenic location. The resort contains 4 hotels, large entertainment areas, 2 of the country’s top golf course, in-land beach with wave pool and a manmade lake on which a wide array of watersports can be enjoyed. Sun City borders on the Pilanesberg National Park and viewing of Africa’s wildlife is also possible.
KRUGER NATIONAL PARK REGION
The Kruger National Park is South Africa’s largest national park, and unquestionably one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in the world. This vast wilderness covers an area of 19633 sq km, equivalent in size to Israel. The National Park runs camps within the reserve that provide good accommodation however if you are visiting the region from abroad it is recommended that you go to one of the private camps that provide a truly unforgettable bush experience.
JOHANNESBURG
Since the discovery of gold in 1886 Johannesburg has been the country’s financial and commercial heartland. Gold and glamour are close companions in this city that has grown from primitive mine camp to Africa’s unofficial Capital. The city pulsates with entrepreneurial energy while having retained the spirit of a frontier town.
VICTORIA FALLS (Zambia)
The mighty Victoria Falls is largest and most incredible waterfall in the world and is one of the seven natural wonders in the world. The sound of the water tumbling over the falls and the resulting mist it produces has caused the locals to call it “Mosi-oa-tunya”, which means “the smoke that thunders”. Victoria Falls is a must for those with the time and/ or budget.
CHOBE
The Chobe National Park covers 11700 square kilometers of pristine wilderness is famous for its beautiful scenery, magnificent sunsets and the largest population of elephants in African, estimated at 35 000. Vast endless landscapes, open plains, baobabs and ancient woodland dominate the panorama.
OKAVANGO DELTA
The Okavango is the largest inland delta in the world covering over 15000 square kms. This unique area contains 95% of Botswana’s surface water and is home to a vast variety of fauna and flora. The floodwaters push into the Kalahari Desert to form countless cannels, water ways and lagoons, creating hundreds of palm fringed islands. The Delta offers wonderful game viewing and birding experiences.
ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Etosha National Park is widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest parks and an ideal conservation area in which to observe closely a remarkable diversity of Africa’s wildlife. The Etosha Pan is a vast shallow depression 139km by 50km. Thousands of wild animals such as blue wildebeest, springbok, zebra, kudu, giraffe, cheetah, leopard, lion, elephant, rhino, amongst others are attracted to the area. Birdlife is prolific with 326-recorded species.
NAMIB DESERT - SOSSUSVLEI
The Namib Desert is the oldest desert on earth. The gigantic 275m high red and grey sand dunes are the highest in the world while the Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world. Most of the 200 species of plants that occur here depend on the mist from the Atlantic Ocean for survival while the animals have also developed ingenious methods to live in this harsh climate.
MOZAMBIQUE
The former Portuguese colony was devastated by years of civil wars however since the negotiated peace in 1995 it has become a very popular destination. As a result of the war the country’s beautiful coastline was not exploited and now offers some of the best beach experiences on the African continent. This is the perfect place for persons that enjoy ocean related activities to kick back and relax.
GARDEN ROUTE
The Garden Route is graced with natural beauty and outdoor activities to suit all leisure types. Golden Beaches, indigenous forests and tranquil lagoons link the quiet towns along this coastline of unparalleled beauty.
