Enjoy a Runcation in South Africa based around one of the events at Ultra Trail Drakensberg. We’ll begin our trip with some low key running and sightseeing in Cape Town, before heading to the Southern Drakensberg to acclimatize and later recover, whilst being included in the conservation work done by UTD wild life partner Wildlife ACT. With distances from 15 to 160 kilometres at UTD, there is an option for everyone, and definitely a viable family trip.
We will follow up the Drakensberg experience with the opportunity of a lifetime by getting to enjoy a multi-day safari that will include getting involved in active conservation programs with Wildlife ACT. They are responsible for the wildlife conservation activities on the Manyoni Private Game Reserve, as part of their broader work within the Zululand region of KwaZulu-Natal. We will support their anti-poaching efforts by assisting with the dehorning of a Rhino. As part of these exclusive interactions, our conservation specialist will provide insight into the over-arching conservation program for each species we follow. They’ll give us feedback on the results of the work we have assisted them with, at the lodge and after we have returned home.

Group Tour with Team Globetrailers’ Benoit Laval and Christophe Le Saux. 12 nights in South Africa, starting in Cape Town, racing in a Big Five wildlife reserve at Addo Elephant Trail Run, followed by a conservation Safari in the malaria free Eastern Cape, and ending with an exploration of the coastal woodlands of the Alexandria Trail.
Enjoy a Runcation in South Africa based around one of the events at Addo Elephant Trail Run. We’ll begin our trip with some low key running and sightseeing in Cape Town, before heading to the Eastern Cape to acclimatise. Addo has the oldest 100 miler in South Africa, and also offers 76km and 44km options. There is a 5km fun run too, so kids and less serious runners can also get a feel for running in an African game reserve. Don’t worry, although Addo Elephant National Park has the Big Five, we’ll run in a section where there is no dangerous game.
After the event, we’ll head to nearby Amakhala Game Reserve, home of the African Rhino Conservation Collaboration, ARCC. While here we’ll enjoy delicious cuisine and 5 star game drives, as well as flush out our race legs among antelope and zebra on the reserve. The highlight of our time at Amakhala will be the day spent at ARCC. We’ll learn learning about the South Africa’s poaching crisis, including very personal accounts of the poaching on Amakhala and surrounding reserves. Thankfully there is an international collaborative effort that has emerged in response to the crisis, and we’ll get to see where ARCC fits into this.
