Characterised by the desolate Namib Desert and semi-arid, sunbaked savanna with its yellowish-brown tints and characteristic euphorbia and aloe plant species. The area is possessed of a stark beauty, challenged only by the northern Skeleton Coast, which creates its own mystery and provides an opportunity for outdoor adventures.
Fish River Canyon
One of the natural wonders of Africa is the Fish River Canyon. The 161 km long, 27 km wide ravine with a maximum depth of 550 m is surrounded by high, forbidding cliffs, and is gashed into the plateau with startling abruptness. The awesome grandeur of the canyon is surpassed only by the Grand Canyon and viewing sites offer splendid insights into this grand, sombre and immensely powerful natural phenomenon.
Sossusvlei
This is a sand dune wonderland, with towering red dunes up to 300 m high (highest dunes in the world) surrounding a huge, dried-up pan. Dunes extend as far as the eye can see and their rich tints vary from pale apricot to vivid reds and oranges. The pan attracts birdlife and wild life such as oryx, springbok and ostriches which feed off the sparse vegetation along the watercourses.

Coastal Regions
Trapped between the inhospitable desert and the wild Atlantic Ocean lies an untamed coastline with unspoilt beaches, caves, lagoons, reefs, shipwrecks and evidence unsuccessful attempts to people trying to settle in the area. The area is unique in terms of the wildlife and birdlife that have adapted to these harsh environments.
Swakopmund
Swakopmund, Namibia's seaside resort is a place of singular charm, and resembles a small Bavarian village nestling between the desert and the sea. Graceful buildings dating back to the early 1900’s, the promenades, palm trees and beautifully tended public gardens provide the town with a unique atmosphere.
