Etosha

Etosha National Park provides visitors with 22,750 km of wildlife sanctuary in northern Namibia. The Park’s name means ‘place of dry water’ as its most astonishing feature is the Etosha Pan, a flat depression of salt and clay that provides shimmering mirages to a savannah grassland backdrop. The pan rarely fills up with water, but blue-green algae still grows in its basin attracting thousands of flamingos, pelicans, and other wildlife. Most importantly, Etosha National Park is home to around 300 of the critically endangered black rhinos. The Park’s many waterholes attract a great variety of game, especially during the dry season months of June through November. Etosha is home to nearly 150 varieties of mammal species some of which include gemsbok, tssesebe, black-faced impala, springbok, burchell’s zebra, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, elephants, and mountain zebra. The main predators found in the Park are lions, cheetah, and leopards. Tourists can enjoy day or night game viewing in a malaria free park. It is also accessible by 2wd vehicles.
