   African Wildlife

Viewing Africa's spectacular wildlife is one of our major drawcards. Southern Africa offers the visitor the opportunity of getting up close to its amazing wildlife, whilst being looked after in luxury. From the waterways and islands of the Okavango Delta to the Bushveld of the Kruger National Park, from Chobe's massive elephant herds to the open plains of Zambias Kafue National Park, there are a variety of spectacular places to visit. Depending on the type of experience you are looking for, the wildlife can be viewed from vehicles, on foot, on horseback and dugout canoes amongst others.    Historical Tours

Southern Africa’s history is as diverse and fascinating as its wildlife. From the ‘Cradle of Mankind’, to the Stone Age hunter-gatherers, to the arrival of the Iron Age Bantu, to the Colonial Period – its different cultures and power struggles, and of course the discovery of diamonds and gold. Apartheid, ‘The Struggle’ and the New South Africa round off Southern Africa's wealth of history - a richness enhanced by a culture of story telling. Andrew Ardington, with his love of Southern Africa’s history and current affairs, is the ideal person to consult on any historical aspect of your visit. We will arrange an itinerary for you that weaves the history South Africa into your journey and makes it a layered experience beoynd compare. And will leave you with plenty to think about.


   Photographic Tours

Landscapes, wildlife and cultures all come together to provide the most wonderful photographic opportunities. The light is rich and the colours vivid - some say that they cannot be compared to other parts of the world. And to be able to caprture these moments on camera is a truly special experience. Shane Doyle, an experienced professional photographer (digital and 35mm), will be on hand to teach you the best techniques of how to take great pictures in the African wilderness. He will organize a tailor-made itinerary for your photographic tour, which will either be guided by himself or one of his colleagues.


   Cycling

The natural beauty of Southern Africa provides a wide variety of excellent cycling opportunities for both road and mountain biking enthusiasts. Sally de Beer, our cycling consultant, will arrange an itinerary to suit your requirements whether it is a fully supported tour with backup vehicles and team, or simply to arrange bicycles and provide cycling options at the various destinations that you visit. Cape Town hosts the largest timed and arguably the most scenic cycle event in the world – close on 35 000 cyclists embark on a 109km race around the Peninsula – this event is becoming very popular amongst foreigners and provides wonderful excuse to visit the country.


   Adventure

Surrounded by the ocean on three sides, with mountains that rise to more than 3000 meters and rivers that vary from mountain torrents to slow meandering serpentines across deserts, Southern Africa provides an ideal adventure destination. Itineraries can be arranged providing you with a different adventure activity each day or alternatively focusing on a particular activity. Some of these activities include: skydiving, paragliding, abseiling, deep sea fishing, Great White Shark diving, canyoning, mountain biking, scuba diving, surfing, kite surfing, sailing, 4x4 vehicle trails, horse riding, river rafting and sea kayaking amongst many other options.


   River Rafting & Kayaking

Southern Africa offers a wide range of river adventure options. Choose from the mighty Zambezi, famous for it’s hair-raising whitewater rafting or a leisurely 5 day expedition trip down the Orange River, camping under the stars and cooking on open fires, through dramatic landscape of the Richtersveld mountains. Or if you want to learn how to roll a plastic kayak and take on some whitewater, we can arrange it. How about a trip of a lifetime into the heart of Africa to explore the source of the White Nile in Uganda - some amazing rafting complimented by a fantastic cultural experience.    Walking / Hiking

The region is blessed with a wide variety of walking and hiking experiences. Africa Bespoke can arrange anything from serious expeditions with backup support to relaxing hikes along the beach. For keen hikers we are able to adjust the itineraries so that the party can walk up Table Mountain, taste wine and walk in the vineyards, hike the world famous Drakensberg, walk amongst our wildlife, or any combination of these. There are also many world-class climbing routes to explore, starting in Cape Town - all around the peaks of Table Mountain range on the Peninsula. Our hiking consultant, Richard Behne, specializes in hiking experiences and is well equipped to create an itinerary to suit your requirements.

The Winelands in and around the Cape offer exciting opportunities for those interested in food and wine. With over 350 wine estates to choose from, many with award-winning restaurants and highly rated chefs, one can be assured of tasting some fine international cuisine complemented by amazing wines. The Cape Winelands, the oldest winemaking area in the country, has some world reknowned wine labels and estates. Cape Town's cosmopolitan feel is truly reflected in the variety of restaurants available and constantly draws top chefs who are inspired by their surroundings to make great food for you to enjoy.    Scuba Diving
Southern Africa offers a wide range of underwater adventures. From floating over coral reefs off remote beaches in warm tropical water, to swimming with Ragged-tooth sharks at Aliwal Shoal, or even just snorkeling in a quiet rock pool. Go cage diving with Great White sharks near Cape Town and witness these most fearsome of all predators at close range underwater - an unforgettable experience! Or for the more sane, just watch from the safety of the boat. Dive with the Manta Rays and Kingfish in the Mozambique channel off the Bazaruto Islands or explore one of the many reefs on the Quirimbas Archipelago.
